YOGA & CONFIDENCE
Confidence is a trait that many of us aspire to possess. It empowers us to take risks, pursue our goals, and overcome obstacles. However, the journey to building confidence is not always a smooth one. In fact, it is often through experiencing failure and picking ourselves up again that we truly develop self-assurance. So, let’s explore the idea that building confidence occurs faster when we’re losing, rather than when we’re winning.
Life has a way of presenting us with challenges and setbacks. It is during these difficult moments that we are truly tested and have the opportunity to grow. When we encounter failure, it may initially feel disheartening and discouraging. However, it is important to recognize that failure is not the end; it is merely a stepping stone on the path to confidence and self-assurance.
This is something that we get to practice over and over on the yoga mat. As a friend of mine mentioned in a workshop, everyone has a challenging pose (asana). It doesn’t matter how flexible or experienced a person is in yoga; there will always be a challenge and an opportunity to try. The ability to try over and over again builds our confidence, and we can transfer this insight to many aspects of our lives off the yoga mat. Each time we stumble, make mistakes, or face setbacks, we are given an opportunity to learn and improve with humility.
When we push through failure and refuse to let it define us, we demonstrate resilience and determination. This resilience fuels our confidence, as we realize that we possess the strength to overcome adversity. As we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and keep moving forward, we cultivate a sense of self-assurance that is unshakable.
